The Backyard Wedding Celebration

When we started making our potential invite list, it very quickly grew past the small list we were expecting and thinking of for our wedding, and we were faced with a quandry: have a big wedding ceremony and reception, or find some other alternative?

We opted for finding an alternative. We wanted to be able to share the joining of our two families with all of our friends and loved ones, but not at the sacrifice of being able to actually see and talk to you all. So we opted to go for the smaller ceremony and reception and then to have a backyard wedding celebration after the wedding. We think this will be more manageable for us - and we'll be able to see a lot more of our friends and family between the two events. We hope you'll join us.

The Details:

The Date: Sunday, May 24th, 2009 (Memorial Day Weekend)
What: A laid-back potluck BBQ celebration.
When: We haven't set an official start time, but we're thinking from about 1:00 or 2:00pm until whenever people get tired and go home (we're guessing this will be around midnight, but you all have surprised us before!).
Where: Our backyard. We will likely do a combination paper/electronic invite but we'll make sure you have the pertinent details well in advance.
Kids? This event is most definitely open to kids throughout the day and until the time when they turn into pumpkins (probably 7:30 or 8:00pm) - we will try to have some activities for them like sidewalk chalk, crafts, and outdoor games, and the big backyard is certainly a draw.

If you are from out of town and you want to attend, please let us know - if we have enough people coming into town, we'll work on group rates at the local hotels. Additionally, if you're from out of town and your attendance at the Backyard Wedding Celebration is contingent on someplace to stay, please let us know. It might be a tent in the backyard, but we'll do our best to find someplace to put you!
